As Chairman of the Latino Committee of the IDO I feel that I must, on behalf of my International Committee thank you personally, for giving our competitors the opportunity of coming to your beautiful and historic city.

You are giving the competitors the chance of visiting a very special part of the world – where East meets West. Usually our people just meet 1 or 2 couples from Turkey, but now we shall all meet a nation.

Salsa is really a new dance phenomenon, that has taken the whole world by storm, and thanks to you and your foresight, Turkey are now hosting these World Championships.

As well as Salsa, the couple dancers will also be competing for trophies in Argentine Tango, Jitterbug and Disco-Fox.

I now look forward to seeing you in Istanbul during June, and joining you in welcoming our competitors to “Dance in Turkey”.

I would also like to thank you for allowing the IDO to hold its 2009 AGM, in Istanbul, just prior to the Championships.
